dCache v1.6.6

dCache has log files which can be found in various places on your system. In addition to the billing information about each file transfer you should find log files in /opt/d-cache/logs/ (see list below). As the contents of the log files are often cryptic, example log entries for standard SRM file transfer commands have been collected and can be viewed via the links below. Only the default logging levels have been used here. The verbosity of logging can be increased by increasing the printout level in the corresponding .batch file in /opt/d-cache/config (remembering to restart the corresponding job after modifying the file). Examples are only given for those log files that are updated while using SRM commands. The other log file are related to different (non-SRM) parts of the dCache system.

Disclaimer

These log files were taken from a simple dCache setup (admin node with 2 pools and no tape store). It is likely that there will be additional complexity in the logs for more complex dCache setups.

In /var/log/ ther are PNFS files:

dCache v1.5.{2,3}

This version of dCache was distributed with LCG 2.6.0 . The number and names of the log files are different to those in the 1.6.6 release of dCache.

  • adminDoor.log
  • dir.log
  • gridftpdoor-srm.log
  • http.log
  • pnfs.log
  • utility.log
  • dCache.log
  • door.log
  • gsidcapdoor-srm.log
  • lm.log
  • srm-srm.log
  • srmDomain.log

If you have run the install_doors.sh script, then the log file names for the doors will change such that they have a "-`hostname -s`" ending, as in the above list (-srm). The DN of a user performing a transfer will be recorded in the gridftpdoor-`hostname -s`.log file if the verbosity level of logging is increased in the file /opt/d-cache/config/gridftpdoor-srm.batch from 2 (the default) to 3. See the DCache_FAQ.

In /var/log/ ther are PNFS files:

  • pmountd.log
  • pnfsd.log
  • dbserver.log

You can specify a different location for these files if necessary by modifying the contents of /usr/etc/pnfsSetup.
