Worker Nodes

  • 512 MB Real Memory + 512 MB Virtual Memory per Job Slot (prefer 1GB Real Memory per Job)
  • 500 MB to 10 GB Scratch Disk space (depends on 'VOBox' Services available)
  • libGLU.so from X11-devel

Storage

  • 100GB for Background Trigger files (depends on 'VOBox' Services available)
  • 50GB for temporary storage of results
  • 5GB VO_BABAR_SW_AREA disk for installation of software

VO Services

BaBar running currently require two extra services, these have not been integrated into the "VOBox" Model and it is not yet clear which are needed at every site and which can be shared between sites.

Objectivity

Objectivity is a comercial database used by BaBar to store it's Experimental Configuration and Conditions. We are licensed to run it anywhere for this purpose. It is not available in RPM format. The database it serves is a read only copy of the maindatabase at SLAC, there is no need to back it up.

The Server requires:

  • 2GB of Real Memeory
  • Dual CPU
  • Gigabit Network connection
  • AFS Client software capable of connecting to the RAL and SLAC AFS cells.
  • Root intevention during the initial software setup to create directories and services (we will provided explicit instructions of what need to be done)
  • Login access to a non-privileged account by software managers to maintain the server software and database
  • >150GB (prefeably >250GB) disk space for one (or more) copy of the database

These instructions detail what is involved in installing the Objectivity Server (most of this will be done by the BaBar SGM as a unpriviledged user).

Xrootd

The other input needed by the BaBar SPGrid jobs are Background Trigger files. These are root files currently served of an xrootd server. The requirements for this service are:

  • 2GB of Real Memeory
  • AFS Client to be installed and configured
  • Dual CPU
  • Gigabit Network connection
  • Root intevention during the initial software setup to create services
  • Login access to a non-privileged account by software managers to maintain the server software and data
  • >150GB disk space to store the root files

These instructions detail what is involved in installing the Xrootd Server (most of this will be done by the BaBar SGM as a unpriviledged user).

A single server with >400GB of disk space should be able to host both these services concurrently
