* I got stuck (figuratively) in my machine room last Thursday afternoon so missed it. [https://indico.cern.ch/event/823800/ Agenda.] [https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/WLCGOpsMinutes190606 Minutes.] Ste was there - any observations?
* There was a WLCG ops coordination meeting on [https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/WLCGOpsMinutes180118 18th January].
+

* Theere was a theme of SAM tests and their use in WLCG reporting. The short summary is that there is overwhelming support for use of SAM tests for operational benefits but there is often a gap between the SAM reports and experiment perceptions of site performance. One major concern was the effort required to recompute results given the number of requests where sites are trying to show even small improvements in their performance to their management/funders. A more useful measure would include a reference to job accounting. A proposal will be made to the MB. GridPP may make a statement to the WLCG MB regarding our management use.

* Three certificates were revoked mistakenly on ARGUS on Thursday.  All SAM tests failed until this was fixed the next morning.  Batch farm also did not start any new jobs during this time.  We used this accidental draining to reboot nodes that needed to pick up security patching.

* LHCb Castor instance has been completely disabled for LHCb and will be decommissioned.

* Brian Davies has transferred from his role as GridPP Tier-2 Storage Support Officer and has joined the Tier-1 Production Team.  Although this has happened with immediate effect he will still be available for ad-hoc/informal storage support.

CHANGE TO APPROVED VOs
+
LHCb has added this to their requirements:
**********************
+

* New Approved VO
+
Sites not having an SRM installation must provide:

A VO, solidexperiment.org, has been included in the GridPP Approved VOs document. Sites are requested to support this experiment, resources permitting.
+
* disk only storage
 +
* a GRIDFPT endpoint (a single dns entry)
 +
* an XROOT endpoint (a single dns entry)
 +
* a way to do the accounting (preferably following the WLCG TF standard: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/StorageSpaceAccounting)

https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs#Approved_Local_VOs
+
''' Tue 16th April 2019'''

* In the Ops Portal, LHCb mentions a new cvmfs mount, /cvmfs/lhcb-condb.cern.ch
+
Minor change to LHCB requirements in Approved VOs:

* A voms server for magic, voms02.pic.es, has an updated DN.
+
* Sites having migrated to the Centos7 (including "Cern Centos7") operating system or  later versions are requested to provide support for singularity containers.

'''Tuesday 9th Jan 2018'''
+
https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs#VO_Resource_Requirements
Changes to Approved VOs.
+

a) VOMS servers for planck, ipv6.hepix.org and enmr are now restored to as they were before the flooding at CNAF.
+
'''Tue 2nd April 2019'''
b) The DN of a VOMS server for magic has changed.
+

https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs
+
Changes to Approved for DUNE (and LZ)

'''Tuesday 5th Sept 2017'''
+
There is a new "Approved VOs" document showing new settings for DUNE. And, since both LZ's voms servers now show up in the EGI Portal, I've removed the (now spurious) entry for voms.hep.wisc.edu that was formerly being inserted by hand.

New Approved VO. SKA European regional data centre, skatelescope.eu
+
https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs

 +
I've also created a new set of RPMs (each has all LSC, VOMS, and XML for one VO) for all approved VOs. See Approved VOs doc for details, version is 1.9.
 +
 +
Sites with DUNE services need to update using whatever method they employ.
 +
 +
Special note: Since voms1.fnal.gov changed yesterday, I've updated documentation for that right away. But voms2.fnal.gov remains as it is until 23rd April (3 weeks). I'll update documentation for that when it is closer. Staggering the updates like this gives a time margin, so any particular site can have at least one service properly configured at any time.  But it does mean that two site updates are needed; one now, and one in three weeks. However, since it's sufficient for only one (of the two) voms servers to be configured properly, sites could save effort and wait until (say) 19th April, then update both at once. But I can't dictate what site admins should do. It's your call.

54 Open UK Tickets this year.

'''Start with the good news - these tickets look like they can be closed:'''

'''BRISTOL'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132880 132880] (16/1)<br />

It looks like transfers are working after the firewall fix. In progress (19/1) ''Solved, but CMS have hit Bristol with another xroot ticket: [https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132990 132990]''

'''QMUL'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132615 132615] (26/12/17)<br />

After changing the working directory LHCB jobs don't seem to be running out of space anymore, so the ticket can be closed. In progress (20/1)

'''TIER 1'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132712 132712] (4/1)<br />

There seems to be positive news getting hyperK jobs working at the Tier 1, so maybe this ticket is sorted? In progress (22/1)

'''RALPP'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132830 132830] (12/1)<br />

This complex CMS xroot ticket looks likely to be solved (in fact Chris might be closing the ticket as I type). In progress (19/1) ''Solved''

'''Now onto the bad:'''

'''RHUL'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132715 132715] (4/1)<br />

This ticket from Daniela about supporting the hyperK VO seems to have gone un-noticed. Can you please notice it? Assigned (4/1)

'''RALPP'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132851 132851] (15/1)<br />

This CMS xroot ticket might be related to the one above, hence why it's not been tended to (indeed it might be able to be closed too). There's a request for some verbose output of an xrdcp from different CMS peeps, so the conversation is out of the site's hands for now. In progress (17/1)

'''QMUL'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132713 132713] (4/1)<br />

Fixing hyperk jobs at QM on a couple of CEs. Dan had a kick of things a while back, how did that work out? In progress (4/1)

'''BIRMINGHAM'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132569 132569] (19/12)<br />

Daniela spotted Dirac problems at Birmingham. Ultimately this is fallout from the Birmingham move to VAC, Daniela has suggested that Mark remove the VOs from the BDII to stop dirac sending jobs to an almost dead CE. Assigned (should be something else) (22/1)

'''MANCHESTER'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132121 132121] (28/11/17)<br />

Any news or progress with this ticket to the VOMS service? There's been no updates with words in them from any site admins. In progress (1/12/17)

'''TIER 1'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132589 132589] (21/12/17)<br />

LHCB pilots are still failing at the Tier 1 at Raja's last post, this ticket could do with an update from the Tier 1's side. In progress (10/1)

'''And the Ugly are a few tickets that need updates from the VOs:'''

'''MANCHESTER'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132468 132468] (14/12/17)<br />

Alessandra updated this atlas transfer ticket with news that she has informed atlas of many lost files that were causing the errors. No news from anyone since. Perhaps someone from cloud support could update things? In progress (4/1)

'''IMPERIAL'''<br />

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132688 132688] (3/1)<br />

Daniela tried to poke Pheno over some lost files, but has had nothing but silence from them. Must have not been important files. Assigned (19/1)

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132692 132692] (3/1)<br />

This LHCB ticket is in the same state as the Pheno one- waiting for someone from the VO to acknowledge the lost files. Assigned (3/1)

[https://ggus.eu/?mode=ticket_info&ticket_id=132683 132683] (3/1)<br />
+
32 Open Tickets this week, which is an in depth a look as I've been able to take.
The atlas equivalent of the previous two, Brian jumped on it when poked through another channel - so maybe these lines of communication aren't getting to where they should? In progress (22/1)

    • WG updates (few).

Tier-1 - Status Page

17 June 2019 Report for the Experiments Liaison Report (17/06/2019) is here.

  • Ongoing, we are seeing high outbound packet loss over IPv6. Central networking performed a firmware update to the border routers but this didn’t resolve the issue. Plan to move connections to the new border routers in Mid June. Will do this before trying to debug any further.

11 June 2019 Report for the Experiments Liaison Report (10/06/2019) is here.

  • Ongoing, we are seeing high outbound packet loss over IPv6. Central networking performed a firmware update to the border routers but this didn’t resolve the issue. Plan to move connections to the new border routers in Mid June. Will do this before trying to debug any further.
  • Three certificates were revoked mistakenly on ARGUS on Thursday. All SAM tests failed until this was fixed the next morning. Batch farm also did not start any new jobs during this time. We used this accidental draining to reboot nodes that needed to pick up security patching.
  • LHCb Castor instance has been completely disabled for LHCb and will be decommissioned.
  • Brian Davies has transferred from his role as GridPP Tier-2 Storage Support Officer and has joined the Tier-1 Production Team. Although this has happened with immediate effect he will still be available for ad-hoc/informal storage support.

Documentation - KeyDocs

Tue 9th July 2019

LHCb has added this to their requirements:

Sites not having an SRM installation must provide:

Tue 16th April 2019

Minor change to LHCB requirements in Approved VOs:

  • Sites having migrated to the Centos7 (including "Cern Centos7") operating system or later versions are requested to provide support for singularity containers.

https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs#VO_Resource_Requirements

Tue 2nd April 2019

Changes to Approved for DUNE (and LZ)

There is a new "Approved VOs" document showing new settings for DUNE. And, since both LZ's voms servers now show up in the EGI Portal, I've removed the (now spurious) entry for voms.hep.wisc.edu that was formerly being inserted by hand.

https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/GridPP_approved_VOs

I've also created a new set of RPMs (each has all LSC, VOMS, and XML for one VO) for all approved VOs. See Approved VOs doc for details, version is 1.9.

Sites with DUNE services need to update using whatever method they employ.
