This procedure documents how an upgrade to the kernel was applied to all worker nodes (WNs) at Manchester.

1. Mirror local repository to include the update needed.
2. Put site in downtime in the GOCDB and disable queues.
3. Update the kernel on all machines.
4. Install the version specific kernel-module-afs (this also has the effect of updating openafs)
5. Once all jobs have finished, reboot all machines.
6. Check that all nodes have the correct kernel version installed.
7. End downtime in GOCDB if neccesary and enable queues.
