The logical file name (LFN) is the unique name of a file in an abstract "grid space", e.g.,
/grid/dteam/users/graeme/dm_test/foobar
This name is independent of any Storage URL, with the File Catalog mapping these LFNs to SURLs.
When used as a URL, the schema is lfn:,
lfn:/grid/dteam/users/graeme/dm_test/foobarbaz
In LCG it is each experimental VO will have a separate file catalog, so their LFN spaces will be independent of one another.
LFNs can also be known as Aliases.
