Tier-1 - Status Page

Tuesday 26th September A reminder that there is a weekly Tier-1 experiment liaison meeting. Notes from the last meeting here

  • There was a problem with the LFC service. A new node was added to the alias but it was not configured to support dteam VO. This was corrected in response to a GGUS ticket.
  • A better understanding of CEPH problems with Echo has provided stability. However, careful management of the disks in servers recently added into Echo has been needed. This has slowed the rate at which the new hardware is being brought into full use.
Storage & Data Management - Agendas/Minutes

Wednesday 30 Aug

  • How will experiements use object stores in the future? Could the Sept. pre-GDB clarify this?
  • Fair bit of stuff known about advantages and disadvantages of erasure coding data, compressing data, etc. prior to storing it.
  • Bristol's curious missing SE - dropped out of the inforamtion system?

[1]

  • Pre-GDB planning: could we present something? Topics seem fairly T1ish
  • Also suggestions for storagey topics for GridPP
  • Anyone to host next DPM workshop?

Wednesday 19 July

  • Discussion of potential topics for data pre-GDB in September, without being able to commit yet
  • Switching to fortnighly calls over the rest of July + August

Wednesday 12 July

  • Lots of loose ends including Matt's IPv6 testing

Tier-2 Evolution - GridPP JIRA

Tuesday 19 Sep

  • Running LHCb production MC in Docker and Singularity containers on Vac. Since GridPP39, CPU and memory cgroups wrapper around Singularity Containers has been added.

  • Aiming for combined Vac/Vac-in-a-Box release with CentOS 7, but with continued SL6 support for Vac.

Tuesday 22 Aug

  • CentOS 7 support in Vac 02.01pre. Release being prepared and tested.
  • Basic Singularity container support working in Vac 02.02pre
  • DIRAC project prioritising Singularity support in Pilot framework

Accounting - UK Grid Metrics HEPSPEC06 Atlas Dashboard HS06

Monday 16th January

  • The discussion topic for next week will be accounting comparisons. Please note Alessandra's comments last week.

Monday 14th November

  • Alessandra has written an FAQ to extract numbers from ATLAS and APEL avoiding the SSB.

Monday 26th September

  • A problem with the APEL Pub and Sync tests developed last Tuesday and was resolved on Wednesday. This had a temporary impact on the accounting portal.
Documentation - KeyDocs

Tuesday 26th Sept 2017

  • Safari on macOS autogenerated client certificates fix put into production last week.

Tuesday 19th Sept 2017

  • Bug in Safari on macOS causes random Apple generated client cert to be presented to www.gridpp.ac.uk using a CA we don't know about. The connection is then rejected by Apache. Other browsers ok since we request but do not require that they supply a certificate. Workaround produced by (a) installing the Apple CA root and intermediary CA and (b) whitelisting UK e-Science DNs (+ CERN? Others?) in the HTTPS Wiki plugin. Tested but not yet in production.

Tuesday 5th Sept 2017

  • A round of reminders is coming!
  • Need to ensure decisions captured regarding supported other VOs.

General note

See the worst KeyDocs list for documents needing review now and the names of the responsible people.

Monitoring - Links MyWLCG

Tuesday 4th July

  • There were a number of useful links provided in the monitoring talks at the WLCG workshop in Manchester - especially those in the Wednesday sessions.

Monday 13th February

  • This category is pretty much inactive. Are there any topics under "monitoring" that anyone wants reported at this ops meeting? If not we will remove this section from the regular updates area of the bulletin and just leave the main links.

Tuesday 1st December

Tuesday 16th June

  • F Melaccio & D Crooks decided to add a FAQs section devoted to common monitoring issues under the monitoring page.
  • Feedback welcome.

On-duty - Dashboard ROD rota

Tuesday 3rd October

  • A new ROD rota poll needs to be circulated in the coming days.

6th June

  • There are issues with the ARC CE tests again, so the ARC sites have not have any results in days and the corresponding availability tickets are going nowhere.
  • New rota being compiled.

Tuesday 2nd May

  • Generally quiet. A few low availability tickets.
Rollout Status WLCG Baseline

Monday 13th February

  • Does anyone want specific questions in this area tackled in a roundtable discussion?

Tuesday 7th December

  • Raul reports: validation of site BDII on Centos 7 done.

Tuesday 15th September

Tuesday 12th May

  • MW Readiness WG meeting Wed May 6th at 4pm. Attended by Raul, Matt, Sam and Jeremy.

Services - PerfSonar production dashboard |PerfSonar development dashboard | GridPP VOMS

- This includes notifying of (inter)national services that will have an outage in the coming weeks or will be impacted by work elsewhere. (Cross-check the Tier-1 update).

Tuesday 4th July

  • Pete C is preparing another networking forward look document. Note that figures presented in the Manchester workshop were for a Tier-2 (not always a single site).

Tuesday 6th June

  • An update from the DIRAC workshop? GridPP is still the only true multi-VO instance, so we will continue to see issues with this. release quality of dirac has improved within the past year. gfal2/EL7 problems seem to be coming to an end after being cooped up with all authors for 3 days on end. The Imperial GridPP module now has integrated testing. It was also noted that every dirac instance has it's own special module to adapt to their community on top of main dira. We are trying to push as much of out special functionality back into the main dirac branch.

Tuesday 25th April

  • perfSONAR version 4 was released on 17th April. Sites with auto-update on should have been automatically upgraded. Note perfSONAR 4.0 requires more CPU than previous versions as a result of some of the increased functionality. Full details here
  • Duncan has recreated the UK perfSONAR mesh. Link here!

Tickets

Monday 2nd October 2017, 15.00 BST
23 Open UK Tickets this month.

SUSSEX
122772 (11/7/16)
Sussex have just the one ticket- the atlas xroot/httpd one. Last word was that Leo had contacted Dan at QM for help. In progress (5/9)

RALPP
130264 (28/8)
Biomed CE publishing ticket - Chris is waiting on the corresponding Brunel ticket (130263) to see how the fix offered works out. In progress (26/9)

OXFORD
130032 (11/8)
LHCB jobs failing on upload. The ticket occurred at a time of multiple SE troubles, and there's not been any news throughout September so first port of call will be to see if the problems persist. In progress (23/8)

130173 (22/8)
A ticket from Duncan about incomplete perfsonar results, with the likely solution being to reinstall to CentOS7. Kashif is on it. In progress (26/9)

129931 (4/8)
http SAM tests failing - for unknown reasons. Kashif hopes an update of the headnode will fix things. On hold (19/9)

CAMBRIDGE
130787 (28/9)
LHCB pilots failing at Cambridge. It looks like lhcb jobs are failing due to hitting a CPU time limit, although no changes have been made site side to break things. John proposed increasing the CPU limits. Waiting for reply (28/9)

BRISTOL
130646 (20/9)
Low CMS xroot HC rates. After some clarification on the problem Lukasz is looking at the xroot logs. Did you see anything? In progress (26/9)

BIRMINGHAM
129930 (4/8)
The Birmingham version of the Oxford http SAM test ticket. Although symptoms are slightly different it's equally hard to debug. Any news, or perhaps we can try to rally the troops for another bash at helping? In progress (16/8)

MANCHESTER
130868 (2/10)
A fresh ROD CE submission test failure ticket. Assigned (2/10)

LIVERPOOL
130518 (12/9)
One of those ROD availability tickets we all loathe. Steve kept us all in the loop, and hopefully things will go green soon. On hold (2/10)

LANCASTER
130753 (26/9)
Setting up na62 at Lancaster, things seem to be working for them after the usual back-and-forth and we just need some more jobs to flow. On Hold (26/9)

QMUL
130262 (28/8)
Another biomed publishing ticket, although this one is aimed at the SE. After some feedback from Biomed it looks like it's the glue2 bit that's broken. In progress (26/9)

IMPERIAL (well, Dirac)
130202 (24/8)
Not really a IC ticket, but one to all na62 sites - about na62 jobs waiting too long. Dan included a useful link in the ticket - there's feedback from RAL in the ticket too. Is it just fairshare (fairly) stopping na62 jobs running as quickly as they'd like? In progress (27/9)

BRUNEL
130742 (26/9)
LHCB noticing pilots failing at Brunel - Raul points out that the CE is being replaced so the problems should be going away. In progress (26/9)

130263 (28/8)
Biomed ticket about negative running jobs being published at Brunel - the ARC devs are involved and Raul has kindly offered to test what they have. Any news from them? In progress (13/9)

TIER 1
128991 (16/6)
Solidexperiment.org tape support. The Castor tape is reading for testing, just waiting on word from the VO (aka Janusz). But Janusz is busy in a control room somewhere... Waiting for reply (13/9)

130467 (10/9)
CMS SAM tests failing at RAL, due to a lack of space on CASTOR. Chris has identified a bunch of dark data and set about purging it, ready for another round of consistency checks. In Progress (25/9)

130782 (27/9)
A request from lhcb to deploy the latest version of heposlibs (which contains a dependency on git). The request has been passed along at the Tier 1. In progress (28/9)

130193 (23/8)
CMS staging of files taking a too long from RAL tape- possibly due to a bunch of corrupt files (although manual copies for some problem files are working). George has asked CMS to try again, and if problems persist send a list of dodgy files. Waiting for reply (29/9)

130207 (24/8)
MICE seeing timeouts copying to CASTOR. Gareth provided an indepth update in the ticket, the ticket is being kept open whilst the GenTape disk pool is upgraded. In progress (6/9)

127597 (7/4)
A CMS ticket to check networking and xroot performance, held up for a while waiting on the RAL networking team. There is some recent movement to repoke the networkers. On hold (2/10)

124876 (7/11/16)
ECHO SAM tests failing due to a problem with the tests - no movement on the counter-ticket (125026) since April - it likely needs a kick. On hold (1/1)

117683 (18/11/15)
Getting GLUE 2 working for CASTOR. Intermittently worked on as time allows. The ticket could do with an update this quarter. On hold (6/7)
