RAL Tier1 Operations Report for 7th February 2018

Review of Issues during the week 31st January 2018 to 7th February 2018
  • Atlas have moved their FTS transfers from our "test" FTS service to the Production one. This change was made (on 30th January) at our request and effectively consolidates us with a single production FTS service. However, there were problems over the weekend when disk space on the FTS servers ran out. Atlas submitted a GGUS alarm ticket on Sunday (4th Jan). The problem was resolved by the on-call team.
  • We have noticed disproportionately large numbers of Alice jobs running on the batch farm – blocking out other VOs. Steps have been taken to correct this.
  • Alice, CMS and LHCb VOBOXes are now dual stack IPv4/6.
  • The Hyper-K VO has been enabled on the batch farm.
  • We await further updates regarding an ongoing problem with one of the BMS (Building Management Systems) in the R89 machine room. This has an intermittent fault.
Current operational status and issues
  • The problems with data flows through the site firewall being restricted is still present. New firewall kit has be purchased and delivered, awaiting deployment.
Resolved Castor Disk Server Issues
  • gdss762 (atlasStripInput - D0T1) – Back in production RO
  • gdss761 (LHCbDst - D1T0) - Back in production RO
Ongoing Castor Disk Server Issues
  • None
Limits on concurrent batch system jobs.
  • CMS Multicore 550
  • ALICE jobs 750. (Attempt to re-balance farm)
Notable Changes made since the last meeting.
  • The Upgrade of Echo to the latest CEPH release (“Luminous”) was carried out successfully during the second half of last week. This was done as a rolling update with the service available throughout.
  • ALICE VOBOXes (lcgvo07 and lcgvo09) and LHCb VOBOX (lcgvo10) are now dual stack IPv4/6.
  • The Hyper-K VO has been enabled on the batch farm.
  • Atlas have moved their FTS transfers from our "test" FTS service to the Production one. This change was made at our request and effectively consolidates us with a single production FTS service.
