The Tier2 cluster at Manchester has a script on the Management Node, now called pinky1, that controls the intellegent power buses in the racks. This allows individual machines/racks to be powered off, and on, to facillitate a remote control of power/boot. The APC power buses also provide a web based GUI, again accessed from pinky1 using the private ipaddress of the relevant power bus, to achieve remote control of power/boot etc. These should be used with care and only on machines that cannot be accessed by conventional means.
