Tier-1 - Status Page

Tuesday 12th September A reminder that there is a weekly Tier-1 experiment liaison meeting. Notes from the last meeting here

  • There were further problems with Echo at the end of last week. These appear similar to those of the previous week but we believe are now better understood. Media errors in the hardware that has been added into Echo uncovered a bug in the CEPH Erasure Coding when back-filling.
  • There has been a successful test transfer of CMS data into Echo using PhEDEx.
Storage & Data Management - Agendas/Minutes

Wednesday 30 Aug

  • How will experiements use object stores in the future? Could the Sept. pre-GDB clarify this?
  • Fair bit of stuff known about advantages and disadvantages of erasure coding data, compressing data, etc. prior to storing it.
  • Bristol's curious missing SE - dropped out of the inforamtion system?

[1]

  • Pre-GDB planning: could we present something? Topics seem fairly T1ish
  • Also suggestions for storagey topics for GridPP
  • Anyone to host next DPM workshop?

Wednesday 19 July

  • Discussion of potential topics for data pre-GDB in September, without being able to commit yet
  • Switching to fortnighly calls over the rest of July + August

Wednesday 12 July

  • Lots of loose ends including Matt's IPv6 testing

Accounting - UK Grid Metrics HEPSPEC06 Atlas Dashboard HS06

Monday 16th January

  • The discussion topic for next week will be accounting comparisons. Please note Alessandra's comments last week.

Monday 14th November

  • Alessandra has written an FAQ to extract numbers from ATLAS and APEL avoiding the SSB.

Monday 26th September

  • A problem with the APEL Pub and Sync tests developed last Tuesday and was resolved on Wednesday. This had a temporary impact on the accounting portal.
Documentation - KeyDocs

Tuesday 19th Sept 2017

  • Bug in Safari on macOS causes random Apple generated client cert to be presented to www.gridpp.ac.uk using a CA we don't know about. The connection is then rejected by Apache. Other browsers ok since we request but do not require that they supply a certificate. Workaround produced by (a) installing the Apple CA root and intermediary CA and (b) whitelisting UK e-Science DNs (+ CERN? Others?) in the HTTPS Wiki plugin. Tested but not yet in production.

Tuesday 5th Sept 2017

New Approved VO. SKA European regional data centre, skatelescope.eu

  • Need to ensure decisions captured regarding supported other VOs.

General note

See the worst KeyDocs list for documents needing review now and the names of the responsible people.

  • NGIs/ROCs please start discussing with sites and provide suggestions for the overall plan for IPv6
  • WebDAV reporting: The Operations Centres are asked to verify with their sites if the webdav protocol is really (intentional) enabled on their storage elements (if not, the information should be removed from the BDII), and report to EGI Operations

Tuesday 4th July

  • There were a number of useful links provided in the monitoring talks at the WLCG workshop in Manchester - especially those in the Wednesday sessions.

Monday 13th February

  • This category is pretty much inactive. Are there any topics under "monitoring" that anyone wants reported at this ops meeting? If not we will remove this section from the regular updates area of the bulletin and just leave the main links.

Tuesday 1st December

Tuesday 16th June

  • F Melaccio & D Crooks decided to add a FAQs section devoted to common monitoring issues under the monitoring page.
  • Feedback welcome.

  • There are issues with the ARC CE tests again, so the ARC sites have not have any results in days and the corresponding availability tickets are going nowhere.
  • New rota being compiled.

Tuesday 2nd May

  • Generally quiet. A few low availability tickets.
Rollout Status WLCG Baseline

Monday 13th February

Services - PerfSonar production dashboard |PerfSonar development dashboard | GridPP VOMS

- This includes notifying of (inter)national services that will have an outage in the coming weeks or will be impacted by work elsewhere. (Cross-check the Tier-1 update).

Tuesday 4th July

  • Pete C is preparing another networking forward look document. Note that figures presented in the Manchester workshop were for a Tier-2 (not always a single site).

Tuesday 6th June

  • An update from the DIRAC workshop? GridPP is still the only true multi-VO instance, so we will continue to see issues with this. release quality of dirac has improved within the past year. gfal2/EL7 problems seem to be coming to an end after being cooped up with all authors for 3 days on end. The Imperial GridPP module now has integrated testing. It was also noted that every dirac instance has it's own special module to adapt to their community on top of main dira. We are trying to push as much of out special functionality back into the main dirac branch.

Tuesday 25th April

  • perfSONAR version 4 was released on 17th April. Sites with auto-update on should have been automatically upgraded. Note perfSONAR 4.0 requires more CPU than previous versions as a result of some of the increased functionality. Full details here
  • Duncan has recreated the UK perfSONAR mesh. Link here!

Tickets

Monday 18th September 2017, 15.00 BST
27 Open UK Tickets this week.

BIOMED PUBLISHING QUERIES
130264 (RALPP's ARC CE)
130263 (BRUNEL's ARC CE)
130262 (QMUL's STORM SE)
Biomed have thrown a bunch of tickets our way, along the theme of "publishing invalid data". Interestingly the ARC devs have stepped in to the Brunel ticket.

OXFORD
130032 (11/8)
LHCB having trouble uploading job outputs. Similar to other issues seen, there are some tests in the linked ticket (130190) that Raja would like to try out. If there is still a problem it would be worth trying out those tests. Also the last update mentions some odd behaviour at QMUL between July and August, which righted itself but may provide a clue. In progress (23/8)

Two other OXFORD tickets could do with an update (even if there's no progress):
129931
130173

BIRMINGHAM
130274 (28/8)
Birmingham "underperforming" for na62, mainly as they might not be submitting to the VAC resources. Are na62 jobs automagically sent to a site's VACs? In Progress (31/8)

BRISTOL
130386 (5/9)
xroot not working for the GridPP VO at Bristol. Winnie posted an interesting question - does xroot require any v6 specific configuration, as some behaviour in the logs suggests that it might. In progress (7/9)

QMUL
130232 (25/8)
A quick note that this icecube GPU issue looks solved, so this ticket can be closed. In Progress (26/8)

130574 (14/9)
An LHCB ticket about "not enough jobs running at QM", although it's more a lesson in fairshare and expectation management, as Daniel points out LHCB has had a lot of CPU over the last few months. I think the ticket should be "Waiting for Reply" though. In progress (15/9)

TIER 1
130193 (23/8)
CMS having trouble staging from tape at RAL, Brian points out that there seem to be a few missing files. Any news on this? Daniela points out that transfers have stalled for 3 weeks now. In progress (4/9)

130467 (10/9)
Somewhat related, CMS SAM tests failing due to there being no room on CASTOR. Chris points out there seems to be 190TB unaccounted for. Waiting for reply (11/9)

Tools - MyEGI Nagios

Tuesday 18th July

  • Following our ops discussion last week, Steve will focus his tests on supporting the GridPP DIRAC area and decommission the other tests.
