File Copy Service

File copying services on the grid form the "active" part of the Data Management Middleware Stack. There are:

• Low level copying protcols like Grid FTP with associated clients and servers (e.g. globus-url-copy and gridftpd).
• Reliable copying services, which schedule and retry the low level copies.

• Data movement services, which invoke reliable copy agents to copy groups of files and interact with the FileCatalog to ensure that each new StorageUrl is registered.
