The Tier-2 Board

NOTE

As of GridPP3 (April 2008) the Tier-2 Board has been superseded by the Deployment Board. The information on this page or linked to from this page relating to the Tier-2 Board is for historical information only.

The Tier-2 Board acted as a forum for discussion between GridPP and representatives of the four Tier-2s.

Terms of Reference

• To oversee and monitor the progress and quality of the Tier-2s.
• To define the target shares for each group of users at each Tier-2 for the forthcoming time period.
• To define and update as necessary the acceptable level of service and operating efficiency of the Tier-2s.
• To define the timescale for implementation of each new software release at the Tier-2s.
• To define and update as necessary the Security and Availability Policy as pertaining to the Tier-2s.
• To advise the GridPP Project Management Board on any further Tier-2 manpower allocations.
• To receive and examine reports on progress and technical developments and Quarterly Reports on the activities of the Tier-2 Hardware Support personnel.
• To identify issues pertinent to the success of the Tier-2 Services and recommend appropriate action.
• To report through the Chair to the GridPP Deployment Board on the progress, issues and quality of the service.

The Board is expected to meet at least three times face to face each year and approximately monthly by phone conference during the lifetime of the GridPP2 project.

Security and Acceptable Use Policies

The Tier2 MoU specifies that the initial GridPP Security and Availability Policy is based on that used by the LCG project. This snap-shot of the LCG documents was taken on 6th July 2004. All subsequent changes will be agreed by the Tier-2 Board.

The LCG policy, as defined by the LCG Grid Deployment Board, is based on a top-level policy document:
