Description The role and structure of Tier-2 centres is currently being examined by an LCG group. GridPP will
consider this input in establishing a preliminary definition for UK Tier-2 centres.

2 4.3.2 Location of UK Tier-2 centres established DUE 01-Jan-03
Description GridPP plans to establish about 4 Tier-2 centres in the UK. Once the formal specification is made
discussions with likely candidates will begin with a goal of establishing the location of centres.
 
Metric Formal commitment (MOU?) by institutions to become Tier-2 centres for at least the remainder of the
current GridPP project.

3 4.3.3 Tier-2 architecture and development plan established DUE 01-Jul-03
Description The identified Tier-2 centres will be engaged in the discussion of how the Tier-2 resources will
evolve to a level where the total UK tier-2 resources are similar to the UK Tier-1 resources.
Plans for both architecture and development are needed.
Metric Agreed plans with each Tier-2 centre on architecture and development over the following 2 years.
