GridPP at the IoP HEPP Conference, Warwick
Tue 18 Apr 2006
GridPP was in Warwick last week as the county's high energy physicists came together to discuss issues facing the community and to present new research. With members of the collaboration attending, speaking and chairing conference discussions, GridPP also held a stand to promote the project to the wider HEPP community.

Thanks to a massive amount of work done by collaboration members, the stand consisted of over 20 posters detailing many aspects of GridPP and Grids in general. The posters were in GridPP's new poster template, and can all be seen at http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/posters/. |
|
There was also a large screen running the Real Time Monitor, which was a major attraction with attendees able to see the Grid working as they drank their coffee between sessions. Alvin Tan from Birmingham was on hand to demonstrate the Ganga project.

Neasan O'Neill, GridPP's events officer, concluded that, "The conference was really successful for GridPP, with a great deal of interest shown in the stand and Real Time Monitor. Thanks to all those who helped out, answering the many questions from meeting delegates."

Outside of GridPP's work, the conference saw an interesting PPARC town meeting, with speakers including Keith Mason, Jenny Thomas and John Womersley discussing issues affecting UK HEP, such as the current programmatic review being undertaken by Science Committee and the proposed new Large Facilities Research Council.

Particle physics presented at the conference included parallel sessions on new results in flavour oscillations, accelerator science and HEP computing, and meson physics. Plenary sessions saw speakers including GridPP's Dan Tovey on Exotics Searches at Hadron Colliders, and Phil Burrows who spoke about the International Linear Collider.
