UK-HEP-GRID Networking activities at CLRC Daresbury
P.Kummer, R.Tasker
At Daresbury we have created a testbed for network development based on four PCs running Linux connected to an Extreme Networks switch and beyond to the Internet. It is our intent to install the Globus toolkit on these machines and use them to test and measure Globus-aware network applications in addition to the lower level investigation of quality of service techniques. Tools to measure and quantify the characteristics of network performance will be installed and developed on these machines.Separately, but clearly closely related, Daresbury was successful with a bid against the JISC Internet 2 initiative. We will work with SLAC to investigate the effects of the application of QoS parameters on the nternational link between the two institutes. Additionally we will liaise closely with UKERNA, the network administrators for Abilene and ESnet and the two MANs involved in providing the end-to-end service to assess the issues surrounding QoS provision on this scale. The network development testbed will be used for this work.
