From: GRIDPP User Board [GRIDPP-UB@LISTSERV.CCLRC.AC.UK] on behalf of Sansum, RA (Andrew) [R.A.Sansum@RL.AC.UK] Sent: 10 September 2007 12:41 To: GRIDPP-UB@LISTSERV.CCLRC.AC.UK Subject: Termination of Non Grid Access at Tier-1 Dear UB, The following is a draft email which I propose to distribute widely immediatly after the UB meeting. I would be grateful if you can give me any comments ASAP, but certainly by the meeting. Closure of Non-Grid Access at the Tier-1 ======================================== Following the Tier-1 board meeting of 15th August it was confirmed that the bulk of non-Grid access at the Tier-1 would be terminated at the end of 2007. This is motivated by a desire to simplify Tier-1 operation in preperation for LHC startup. By the 11th January 2007, the following will be terminated: 1) Direct qsub job submission to the PBS system. All job submission must be via the Grid by the CE or preferably the WLCG RB. Exceptions may be made * where experiment VO support staff need qsub access to debug Grid interfaces. * cases of personal or VO hardship. 2) All local login to the all the Tier-1 front end hosts. These incluse at least the following: lcgui, lcgui(xxx),cms-ui,csglinux,csf Exceptions may be made where: * VO production staff require local access to support VO infrastructure or submit work to the Grid Data on the home filesystem will be retained for 1 year and access in an emergency can be made by special arrangement. 3) User AFS accounts on the rl.ac.uk Cell. No exceptions will be possible as it is planned to end the physical service as the hardware is difficult to maintain. Access to the service will end on 11th January, but data will be retained until March 2008 to the best of our ability. We can not guarantee access beyond this date as maintainance agreements will have ended and hardware will be at risk. 4) Access to tapes via the Datastore/Tape protocols are scheduled to end 31 March 2008 (announcement already made) By default access to all the above services will be switched off. Only approved userids will be allowed to continue. If you feel you need to continue to ratain access to any of these services beyond the scheduled date, please contact support@gridpp.rl.ac.uk, stating what access you need and on what grounds..
