From: GRIDPP User Board [GRIDPP-UB@LISTSERV.CCLRC.AC.UK] on behalf of Sansum, RA (Andrew) [R.A.Sansum@RL.AC.UK] Sent: 21 December 2006 09:23 To: GRIDPP-UB@LISTSERV.CCLRC.AC.UK Subject: dCache to CASTOR Migration Dear UB, As you know we had a very sucessful run with the pre-production CASTOR service for the CMS CSA06. A number of other experiments are also testing CASTOR. Once Bonny gets back in the New Year I expecte we will declare CASTOR to be providing a full production service. having seen the experiment requests to the UB it is clear that in the first half of 2007 disk resources available exceed required capacity. There is therefore a window of opportunity in 1H07 where we have resources to allow testing and migration to dCache will being able to meet production dCache requirements at the same time. A further driver is that we would like to stop our effort going into dCache as soon as possible (supporting two SRM/disk pool services for longer than necessary makes no sense). I would therefore like to propose: 1) We plan to switch of dCache 30th June 2007 2) Any experiments new to an SRM/SE at RAL should be required to start immediatly on CASTOR We could of course review the situation nearer the sxcheduled closure date. If the UB agrees to the schedule in principle then I will ask Matt and Catalin to commence the process of agreeing target dates for individual experiments. Regards Andrew
