DØ GridPP2 Electronic Log Book

Project

Name: DØ SAMGrid
Manager: I. Bertram, G. J. Davies

High Level Objectives and Level-1 Deliverables

  1. Objective: The further development of the Runjob product: the CDF/DØ specific parts and contributions to the common code shared with CDF and CMS .

    (b) The runjob workflow package will be used by the DØ, CDF, and CMS experiments as the core of their standard workflow management for production on the Grid.
    (c) The partners in Runjob as listed above.
    (d) The use in production of runjob versions on the target Grid architectures.
    (e) Risk: R2, R5, R12, R38.
    (f) Deliverables
    1. - 4.2.1 - 2005-Q1 Planning Documents
      (i) Produce a document describing the interfaces to the Runjob package.
(ii) Produce a document describing the required features and interfaces for integrating generic user applications with runjob and running on HEP Grid without a full release of the DØ code.
    2. - 4.2.2 - 2005-Q2 Software Release
      (i) Runjob adapter code for CDF
    3. - 4.2.3 - 2005-Q3 Software Release
      (i) Complete the full integration of the DØ/CMS/CDF versions of the runjob product.
(ii) Demonstrate implementation of user applications on SAM-Grid.
    4. - 4.2.4 - 2006 Q3 & following: Document & Software Release
      (i) - Determine an appropriate list of Grid architectures to which d0runjob is to be interfaced.
    5. - 4.2.5 - 2007 Q1 & following: Software Release
      (i) Extension of Monte Carlo Request System.
    6. - 4.2.6 - 2007 Q2 & following: Document & Software Release
      (i) Dzero user analysis on the grid.
  2. Objective: The operation of a UK Regional Analysis Centre for DØ and SAMGrid deployment for CDF.

    (b) The effective operation of a UK RAC is of critical importance to UKDØ and a high-level objective for CDF
    (c) The UK DØ and CDF collaborations.
    (d) Achievement of performance against metrics determined in advance on a 6 monthly basis.
    (e) R4, R15, R20, R30, R41, R42
    (f) Deliverables
    1. - 4.2.8 - Software Installation (as required):
      (i) Ensure that the appropriate environment is setup for running CDF and DØ products on GridPP sites.
    2. - 4.2.9 - Document (every 6 months)
      (i) Monitor the operation of all computing facilities within the UK that are supporting CDF & DØ operations to ensure the maximum possible efficiency of operation for collaboration needs.
(ii) Install and maintain any additional Grid software required by SAM (that is not supported in the LCG package)
(iii) Publish the agreed monitoring metrics for CDF and DØ computing (based on uptime and jobs successfully completed)
  3. Objective: Implementation of the SAM-Grid job submission system and its interoperability with LCG.

    (b) Essential to make SAM-Grid a generic system that will interoperate with the LCG (and other) grids.
    (c) Principally the CDF and DØ collaborations, though clearly interoperability with other grids will allow these, in particular LCG, to adopt beneficial components of SAM-Grid.
    (d) Production of MC, data reprocessing and data analysis using SAM-Grid on the UKRAC, made up of shared facilities, including LCG facilities.
    (e)R4, R5, R10
    (f) Deliverables
    1. - 4.2.10 - 2005-Q1: Review and planning document
      (i) Review understanding of issues to be addressed for LCG interoperability and programme of work associated with them.
    2. - 4.2.11 - 2005-Q4: Software release
      (i) Production release of robust SAM-Grid service for Monte Carlo production, data processing and other functionality as defined in deliverable 1.
    3. - 4.2.12 - 2006-Q4: Software release
      (i) Release of a prototype SAM-Grid workload management system that works with the approved list of Grid Architectures.
    4. - 4.2.13 - 2007-Q2: Software release
      (i) Full production level interoperability between workload management systems of SAM-Grid and LCG.
    5. - 4.2.14 - 2007-Q4: Software release
      (i) Final release: Full interoperability between SAM-Grid and other pre-defined standard Grids.
