User Documentation Overview
There is a large amount of documentation about the Grid. However, because many different projects are involved, both national and international, the documentation is spread over a large number of web sites. Also, the Grid is evolving rapidly and hence documents become out-of-date rather quickly. The aim of the user web pages on the GridPP web site is to provide pointers to the available documentation in a structured way, with some indication about the reliability and usefulness of different sources.
Finding information
The user pages on this site have pointers to the most important documents, but it's impossible to cover every possibility so it may be necessary to look further. As with many things, web search engines are often the most effective tool as long as you can find a sufficiently specific search string. However, be aware that some hits may be several years old and largely obsolete, so always try to check the modification date - anything more than a year or so old may be problematic.
There is also a search facility on the GGUS home page, and another on the EGEE SA1 documentation page, which restrict the search to some known sources of Grid documentation.
You can look through a list of web sites which provide some useful documentation for users. Some indication is given about the content and usefulness of the different sites, but you may have to look around to find what you're looking for. It's worth getting a general feel for what's on at least the major web sites (this site, LCG, EGEE, GGUS and the site for your VO).
Often the best way to get help is to ask other users. As described on the Contacts page there is a GridPP users mailing list, although so far it isn't very active. That page also lists various other mailing lists and contact addresses. There are also likely to be mailing lists within the various experiments.
For help on specific issues the People and Roles table gives an idea of who does what in GridPP, and you can also look at the contact information for the Deployment Team.
Please report any problems with documentation to the Documentation Officer. General comments would also be appreciated on the usefulness of these web pages, and areas where documentation is missing or unhelpful.
