Metadata Workshop 26-28 April 2004

Aims of Workshop

The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts working on a variety of high energy physics experiments to discuss the use of metadata, and focus the aims of this group.

Agenda

To be finalised. The following gives an outline of the topics that will be covered.

Discussions:

  1. Metadata architecture and components (replica catalogs, file catalogs, physics catalogs, etc).
  2. Use cases.
  3. Query languages in use.
  4. Implementations and their performance. Technology considerations. Performance requirements.
  5. Service architectures. Deployment architectures.
  6. Database implementations:
    - progression of text file->mysql->postgres->enth or backplane
    - which should be used when?

Possible talks:

  1. Pros and Cons of SAM
  2. ... invite the other experiments to do the same kind of talk.

Output of the talks:

Write up implementation and conclusions for each group. Lessons learned, primary design drivers.
