Track classification: Grid middleware and e-Infrastructure operation
Due to the large volume of data that the LHC will produce, it is essential for the operation of the LCG that there is both sufficient storage capacity across the Grid and that this storage is accessible to middleware applications via a common interface, the storage resource manager (SRM). The UK's particle physics grid community, GridPP, is responsible for the deployment of storage resources and SRM interfaces at all UK Tier-2 centres involved in LCG. We present the results of this large scale deployment across geographically distant institutes. In particular, we will discuss the processes that were used to facilitate the systems deployment, the support structures that were created during the project and the operational issues that they helped to resolve. This work was funded by GridPP and carried out by the University of Edinburgh and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
